I am writing about this on behalf of all the ordinary people (like myself) that find it hard to navigate the legal system, a few years ago I studied full time ‘community services – community work’  and even though it was very worthwhile I couldn’t help thinking that all this information was well and good except that the people that really need it,  would not know have access to it,  as they would not know where to go looking, or who to ask.

For the last 11yrs I have been living in Warragul in an average sized unit, I must be honest I am not the best budge tor in the world, but I get my bills paid but not much else, one bill I find unbelievably high are the council rates and water rates, in fact I got behind with the council rates and received a letter to say that they are going to take me to court. I was shocked, so now out of the blue they rang to say that they are happy if I just keep a regular payment, one of the things that surprises me is if I broach the subject of  the rates with any of my neighbors they clam up and I guess that is one of the things that the council wants is for us not to talk about it openly to each other.

Update on rates – to my surprise each time I opened my net bank I would transfer $50 or even $20 over to the rates, via bpay and the money most times can not be missed and before you know it the balance is zero.

The trick is not to let it go too late pay whatever you can ( with out it impacting too much) as soon as you can, it will all makes a difference, when the end of January comes along.

I don’t think that people like owing money and they will pay their bills first and feed themselves last.

The main purpose of this site is to as I dig around and find out as much information as I can about the in’s and out’s of the laws and by-laws in Gippsland in particular, I am starting small with minimal experience but who knows little by little things can change, this will also be a forum where the average person who has can also have an input, even if it is just to air their grievances.
